Can you see it? That is NOT fog: It is midday smog. No Sun, no Tower
Rem Koolhaus thru the Smog
Frozen Houhai Lake, Beijing
It is midday in January. No Sun pierces the dense smog.
Coat or Pooch?
Strolling along Lake Houhai, Beijing, I thought this was a fur coat. The human head wasn't visible. Simply a silly shot.
Me at Houhai Lake, Beijing
Bitterly cold, though it is Noon. The Sun cannot get through the dense fog-like air pollution, so day is as cold as night.
Barely Visible Beijing Sun

100th Birthday of the Rockefeller Foundation
In the Great Hall of Beijing, the Rockefeller Foundation celebrated its Centennial with a three-day summit on visions of global health in 2113 -- 100 years from now.
Good Morning, Beijing
9am, the smog so thick it obscures the entire city-scape of downtown Beijing. Picture taken from a hotel, located 2 blocks from Tianamen Square

Painted on a wall is a fist, a policeman, and the phrase, "Do not write on these walls or the police will beat you!"
And Now For Something Completely Different...
Yangon, Burma (aka Myanmar)
Electricity is intermittent or nonexistent
Well, the wiring and infrastructure dates to British colonial days!
Bottled water is a booming business in Burma: Tap water isn't safe, and runs intermittently
US Tobacco in Japan
Brave Burmese TB Workers
TB workers face real dangers on the job at the MSF Clinic outside Yangon, where multidrug resistant strains are the norm

Yangon Skateboarder 1
Posing in front of his portrait in Yangon this Burmese dude is part of a group of serious boarders
Yangon Skateboarder 2
That portrait behind him, covered in tatoos, is his. The biggest problem for die hard skateboarders in Burma, he said, is the lousy roads.
Yangon Skateboarder 3
He agrees the roads are lousy, but even worse for the skateboarders is the traffic in Yangon. With the opening of Burma to outsiders has come a flood of capital, and cars. Skateboarders risk their lives almost anywhere in daylight, so most boarding is done between 1am and 5am -- which prompts police harassment.
Now for something completely different....
Singapore's Main Harbor
That white building that looks like an uplifted hand is a science museum.
Science Museum in Singapore
Architects are going bananas with affluent Singapore
Singapore Shopping Mall
It's so hot in Singapore that life is spent indoors, in climate controlled massive malls like this one, complete with indoor canals and boats.
Color and Construction, everywhere
Singapore's equivalent of Manhattan's FIT
Surviving in Singapore requires air conditioning. Every back alley hums with hundreds of ACs
Old and New
Nothing stays as it was for long in Singapore's boom town..construction is so constant that it's the primary cause of traffic congestion
